Holly Jolly Christmas

Image
Sunny got a nurse for Christmas! Sunny started off this week helping her interim nurse, Erik, train one of the agency's newer hires. She was only slightly familiar with trach/vent kiddos, so they sent her to shadow their best.  Holly was scheduled to shadow Erik Monday-Wednesday, but after Tuesday's shift ended, Erik asked us to think about Holly taking over for Sunny's care.  We knew that he wouldn't be with us forever - Erik's role is above the day-to-day nurses and he primarily trains and helps fill in the gaps - but we were blissfully living in denial of him ever leaving us. We were initially told that he would be covering for 6-8 weeks, and I joked.....or passed it off as joking...that the timeframe restarts in the new year! Holly is young, but VERY eager, willing, and attentive to Sunny. After a couple days, she was already putting some piggies in Sunny's hair, and was quick to ask if there were any concerns we had, or any suggestions for future care of ...

Thriving Winter Girly

Sunny had a nice week with NO appointments:) While we always enjoy seeing the members of her team, after last week's marathon of appointments, we needed this week of calm.  Sunny had an amazing Sunday, and was content - even taking a nap - in the sanctuary during the whole service! That was her first time making it the whole way through(nothing personal pastor Nathan & Bobby). She usually got fussy, needing a diaper change, and then would fall asleep out on the lobby couch. I wish we could give her the bath after, because it relaxes her so, but it worked out well because we changed the soggy trach ties right after the bath. She was still pretty chill, and fell asleep right after:)  We cancelled her Early Intervention PT workout Tuesday because she was a tad more nauseous than normal that day into Wednesday midday. After a few good naps Wednesday, chica was feeling much bett...

Happy Thanksgiving!.....& December!

GOODNESS.  Nothing bad, all good things - just busssyyyyyyy.  Sunny's first Thanksgiving NOT in the hospital was really great. We took her on her a road trip to spend her first night away from home - & not in a hospital.  It was daunting, a tad overwhelming, and we had very little motivation Wednesday afternoon.  But we decided to plan on going, but just know & remember that we could pull the plug at any point.....on the plans, not Sunny's equipment. We were both stressed about different aspects of packing Sunny's things; I was intimidated at the thought of packing Sunny's home ventilator that's on the stand with all the things. Heater/humidifier, water bag for the heater/humidifier, oxygen tank, feeding pump, and trusty fan. Chris wasn't at all, so he tackled that while I pulled together Sunny's other supplies - trach care things, g/j-tube supplies, more water bags, medications, syringes for meds, drying rack etc etc, plus all the usual baby thinks ...
