Morning By Morning
At the end of last week, the plan was to try weaning Sunny off of the medication that she'd been started on in the CICU. Since the flow restrictor was seemingly doing what everyone hoped it would, the team wanted to see how stable that improved function was without the medication. Sunny was completely off of it on Saturday, and they scheduled for an echo Monday to check how her heart responded.
She slept through most of her echo, getting cranky only at the end of her first of the morning echocardiogram. I can't imagine being woken up by a stranger probing cold, squishy gel around, I too would be (at the very least) cranky. The results were good! There was essentially no change, which in her case is good. They were testing to see if there'd be a difference after she was taken completely off of the medicine, & there wasn't.
We hung out for most of the week, waiting for her case to be discussed Thursday at the surgical conference. I got another trach insertion completed, and that feels good to have more of that supervised practice.
Thursday rolled around and we were told, pretty immediately, that a Sunny was getting moved back over to 2B. Because she was fine without being on the IV medication, & was/has been stable since the flow restrictor, there was no need for intensive care anymore! The doctor on service this week also said that at conference, it was determined that the surgeon wanted to wait. Again. It came as a bit of a shock because the last we heard, the surgeon was happy with her results since the flow restrictor, & was optimistic about getting surgery on the books.
The new plan is to get baby girl fitted with a fancy g- tube, and work towards getting us home.
I think we both have some mixed feelings about it. Corrective surgery felt so close, but the idea of going home sounds wonderful too. We're excited to take Sunny home to meet her dog-sisters, but the idea of taking her home feels terrifying at the same time.
Prayer requests:
- Homeward bound preparations to go smoothly! (Currently, in-home care is having trouble finding someone to fit our needs)
- Continued health for Sunny and her parents.
Your care mean so, SO much to us. We're so grateful to be surrounded in your prayers. We're tired, and are feeling all the things all of the time. But we also feel strong and seen and loved. By you & by our Heavenly Father. Thank you.
Love,
Chris, Alyssa & Sunny
