Manic Monday - and The Week That Followed Suit
Sunny is fine - she's seemingly sick with something, but this week was rougghhhhh.
She was starting with discomfort and pukey-ness over the weekend. It was hard to tell if she was coming down with something, or if teething was wrecking her little body.
Monday, we had an appointment with neurosurgery to get a prescription for another helmet. Between all her vomit days during the summer she was inpatient and had her cute purple helmet, she'd outgrown it. Sunny was pukey, and mad about being in the car. It's about 1.5hrs one way, and she was tachycardic to and from. Once we were home again, I was anxious to get her inside and comfortable so she could nap and recover. I think I was so focused on that, that when her GJ-tube got caught, I didn't noticed until it had popped out. I still feel so bad, and ridiculous for doing that. I'm usually so cautious when moving her, and hyper-paranoid when other people are moving her. Sunny's angel of a nurse immediately reassured me by saying, "Alyssa, accidents happen."
But I of course still blamed myself the whole drive BACK TO NEMOURS. Ugh. We had literally JUST pulled into our driveway, and now we had to get back on the road for another three hours of travel.
Thankfully, Sunny seemed more content with the hole in her stomach haha. I think it released some pressure, and she was actually able to fall asleep for a little bit during the drive back.
Getting the GJ-tube back in was fast - they use imaging to make sure the J part goes just past the jejunum, and then we were right back in the car on the way back home.
On Saturday, I had filled the gas tank, and to my amazement, both trips only brought the van to halfway empty!? (Shoutout to minivans)
The rest of the week was better, but somewhat followed suit. Sunny was not herself, and showing multiple symptoms and quite clearly uncomfortable. Still, I couldn't tell if it was teething, or her not liking us changing up her food a little. But then Wednesday, she added a fever to her symptoms and that made us think it wasn't feeds related. We went to see her PCP yesterday, and she looked in Sunny's ears, did a nasal swab, and then sent us for an x-ray to rule out pneumonia.
The x-ray confirmed that it was NOT pneumonia(!), and so we're waiting to see what the results from the swab say. I was able to keep myself from yanking anymore tubes from her belly this trip, so that's a win...
This week and all the roughness makes me even more grateful for her team of nursing. Sunny(and I:/) really made them work for their paychecks this week - and while acknowledging that this week was hard, they've both risen to the challenge and come out continuing to keep Sunny safe, and loving both their patient and her parents well.
Prayers:
- Swift healing from whatever Sunny is dealing with now.
- and whatever else you feel led to pray for, there is no wrong answer.
Thank You so very, very much.
Love,
Chris, Alyssa & Sunny
